Subrata Roy's Sahara India Group to set up a Mega Power plant in Orissa

Sahara India Power Corporation Ltd, a Subsidiary of Sahara India, the part of Sahara Prime City Limited has signed MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Government of Orissa for setting up a 1320 MW (2 x660) coal based thermal power plant in Turla Tehsil of Balangir District in Orissa by investing around Rs. 5604 crores. The memorandum was signed by Mr. Pradeep Jena, commissioner cum secretary – Power on behalf of the Government of Orissa and Mr. Ashok K Bhargava, Chief Advisor and Head of Sahara power project. This was done in the presence of honorable Chief Minister of Orissa, Shri Naveen Patnaik and other renowned officials.

This thermal power plant is built up on an area of 1500 acres. By setting up this power plant, they have made a great contribution for the residents of Balangir. This thermal power plant is set up with the collaboration of various power companies from different parts of the world. Sahara India Power Corporation Ltd in collaboration with Solar Integrated Technologies Inc. (SIT), USA supplied and installed the plant and equipments.

Sahara India Pariwar declared to serve the first unit of 660 MW of the plant by February 2013 and the second unit of 660 MW within 6 to 8 months thereafter. Also, they promises to develop pucca roads in the thermal plant project vicinity so that the main of Sahara group which is providing quality of life to the locals could be fulfilled. Also they made provisions for portable drinking water there. They also come up with the idea to construct Primary health and education centre in the vicinity.

Subrata Roy Sahara, Chairman of Sahara India Pariwar extended sincere gratitude to the Government of Orissa for their cooperation and support that helped them a lot to set up this project. Sahara Group is taking lots of initiative to be a great part of all the segments including the power generation through conventional and renewable resources, power trading, manufacturing of power equipments, power transmission and distribution.

Sahara India has done many social services and is considered as one of the most socially responsible company of India. This power plant will be a great contribution by Sahara group to the people of Balangir district. According to Subrata Roy Sahara it was a great attempt by Sahara India to serve the energy.
